MOROCCO

Preferred Payment Methods for Ecommerce

Country Payment Mix

• Cash is still the most popular payment method in Moroccan ecommerce, accounting for 67% of sales in 2020. This is due to the country’s cash-based economy and the lack of trust in online payments.

• The use of debit cards has increased significantly in recent years, from 3% of sales in 2018 to 33% in 2020, followed by internationally enabled and domestic credit cards. This is likely due to the increasing availability of debit cards in Morocco and the growing popularity of online shopping.

• Deferred debit card payments allow shoppers to buy now and pay later, making them a popular option for online purchases.

• International merchants who want to succeed in Morocco should accept local payment methods, such as debit cards and domestic-only credit cards. This will make it easier for Moroccan consumers to shop with them.
